About Nakechand Pooran

My name is Nakechand Pooran, MD, and I am an associate professor of medicine and the gastroenterology section chief at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. I earned my medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. My postgraduate training was completed at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, where subsequently, I was an attending physician in the division of gastroenterology and a clinical instructor of medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Prior to my arrival at UF, I was an assistant and promoted to an associate professor at Penn State College of Medicine and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. From there, I served as the director of endoscopy and an associate professor at the Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

I am a member of the American College of Physicians, a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
